Statement from the organizer of the cancelled E3 2023conference “Everybody seemed so excited From the Beginning”

Following the E3 event, which fans eagerly await each year, it was cancelled in 2023. The organiser GamesIndustry.biz stated that "at the beginning, companies were eager to secure large spaces but then the weather turned".

We found out we learned that E3 fair, which has been the biggest gaming event in the world since its inception, was cancelled just two days ago. The reason for this was because companies pulled out in a series of withdrawals. Following Xbox, Nintendo, Sony and Ubisoft announced that they would not be attending E3 this year. Sega, Tencent, and Devolver also announced that they would be withdrawing from the show.

“Gaming industry did not want this E3 to take place”

Christopher Dring, who is at the top of GamesIndustry.biz who is the organizer of E3 2023, stated in an announcement that the gaming industry doesn’t want the E3 to be held. Based on his personal words that a lot of big game companies were extremely enthusiastic about the show.

“Companies were talking about buying huge spaces. The E3 team was exploring how we could expand the parking lot and use extra spaces that haven’t been used for years. The event was in full swing. But with E3 2023 just a few months away, the mood changed as the contracts weren’t signed yet.”

According Dring Dring one of the reasons corporations like Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have given for their decision to pull out are:

  • “Our games aren’t fully prepared”
  • “We do not have any specific code”
  • “We can’t be viewed as an ad hoc business in this environment”
  • “The timing may not be the right time”
