Sony’s revenues are largely attributed to PC games

Other Category Breaks Revenue Record

The increase in revenue for Sony from the Other category shows how well-informed Sony was in its decision to bring PlayStation to PC. Sony’s revenue from sales in the Other category is over $ 2.5 billion, according to the statement.

This revenue item includes PC Games, Accessories, Controllers (including DualSense Edge), and PSVR 2.

The Other category generated $1.3 billion in revenue for fiscal 2019.

Sony began bringing PS-games to the PC with Horizon Zero Dawn in fiscal 2020. The revenue for the Other category that year was $1.5 billion.

In fiscal year 2022, revenue exceeded $2.5 billion (we can call it the Days Gone effect and God of War).

The PC games are not the main source of revenue. We know, for example, that the PSVR2 sold about 300,000. This means $170 million was generated by this accessory. As the PS5 sales increase, so do controllers and accessories. PC games contributed to the success of this console. In fact, fiscal year 2022 is also the same year when most PS games will be available on PC (Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales’ Returnal).

Sony announced previously that it expected to generate $300,000,000 in revenue in fiscal year 2020 from PC games. The final revenue should have been a bit higher, but we can only estimate this unless Sony releases separate income statements that include items under the Other category.
