Epic Games Penalized $245 Million for “Extortion of Money” from Players in Fortnite.

Epic Games was fined $245 million by the decision of the US Federal Trade Commission. The reason for the penalty is Fortnite's in-game purchase system.

Epic Games, the developer of productions such as Fall Guys and Fornite and the owner of one of the largest game platforms in the world, has been on the agenda for a long time with the “commission” case with Apple last year. Now, Epic Games has been fined quite heavily by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The reason for the penalty is that Epic Games “fooled” unconscious young players and forced them to shop in-game. Moreover, the FTC has tangible evidence of this.

“Even if you press random keys, you buy V-Bucks”

In the statement made by the FTC, it was stated that Epic Games, the owner of Fortnite, made money by deceiving unconscious users in a questionable legality. FTC officials, who said, “Due to Fortnite’s complex key combinations, some users can buy hundreds of dollars of V-Bucks by pressing the wrong key,” FTC officials claim that Epic did this on purpose and that they were lying on the money by not accepting returns.

The FTC also cites complaints and comments about Fornite on the internet and Twitter, as well as messages from Epic Games customer representatives stating that they “cannot be refunded” as concrete evidence.

Although Epic Games does not accept the charges brought against him, he is obliged to pay the $245 million fine imposed on him by the FTC. Additionally, the FTC has asked for this payment system to be fixed.

Fortnite is very dangerous for kids

In addition to this penalty, the FTC stated that both Fortnite’s interface and in-game systems are not safe for children. Officials, who found Epic Games’ account security feature for children insufficient, argued that parental controls should be added to the game. Epic Games, on the other hand, declined to comment on this issue.
