AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D overclocked to 5.4 GHz

Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, one of AMD's Zen 4 architecture 3D V-Cache processors, has been overclocked by 5.4 GHz. So, what exactly does this processor, that comes with an overclock lock can it offer in terms of speed? Here are the specifications

The embargo of AMD’s eagerly anticipated 3D V-Cache processor called the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, has ended. In this regard the processor, which has received positive feedback regarding its performance and the value it provides is now overclocked by up to 5.4 GHz. What exactly is the 7800X3D’s performance in the event that it’s 5.0GHz limit is reached? Let’s look at it together.

If you’re not aware that this Ryzen 7000 3D V-Cache series has lower TDP clock speeds, clock speeds, and an overclock lock than the standard X series. As of now, AMD has disabled manual overclocking of the chip although it has some exceptions, such as Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) and Curve Optimizer. But, it appears that overclockers will always surpass these limits like they have always done.

Tested using an ASUS ROG CrosshairX670E X670E motherboard and a liquid cooling system that is specially designed during the tests conducted by SkatterBencher and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D managed to attain 5.4 GHz, thanks to the assistance by the external clock generator found on the motherboard. But, it must be mentioned that the method involved is quite difficult for users who are not experts in the field.

In fact, SkatterBench states that the Ryzen 7800X3D is extremely sensitive to voltage. Therefore, the manual overclocking feature is disabled by default. Even tiny increments could cause problems with the temperature that could damage the CPU.

If we review the test results published we can observe how the speed of Ryzen 7 7800X3D has increased by 7.7 percent across the board and the single-core speed has grown by 10. Although overclocking has no effect with gaming efficiency, there’s significant improvement when running Cinebench R23 along with Geekbench that is based on the performance of compute.
